Installing OpenOffice Australian dictionary

Download the appropriate language dictionary from openoffice.org

In my case en_AU.zip

unzip it and copy it to your personal openoffice directory or to the system openoffice directory if you want to make it global. I did a personal install.

[james@p3 openoffice]$ cp en_AU.aff en_AU.dic /home/james/.openoffice/user/wordbook/
[james@p3 openoffice]$ cd /home/james/.openoffice/user/wordbook/
[james@p3 wordbook]$ ls
en_AU.aff  en_AU.dic
# dictionary.lst needs to be made if it doesn't exist in $openoffice_homedir/user/wordbook
[james@p3 wordbook]$ touch dictionary.lst
[james@p3 wordbook]$ vi dictionary.lst 
# add the following to dictionary.lst

DICT en AU en_AU

Save and close dictionary.lst

Restart openoffice and then click Tools --> Options --> Language Settings --> Languages and make sure it's as follows
