Accessing the Full Outlook Web App on a Linux Client

I am running Fedora 18. If I connect to my remote Outlook Web App with Google Chrome I get the “use the light version of Outlook Web App” already pre-ticked and logging in it is indeed the Light Version.

So I’ve been suprised to find if I use Firefox 19.0 that I can access the Fat Outlook Web App Client. There are good reasons that you would do this.

With the fat OWA client you get:

  • Access to Public Folders
  • Rich Text Email Editors (the lite client is restricted to plain text)
  • Right Click “Reply, Reply All, Forward, Delete etc” context menu
  • Better search
  • Reading Pane
  • Recover deleted items
  • Other stuff…

My assumption has always been that the full OWA client was restricted to Microsoft based browser sessions only (because of reliance on ActiveX). Mozilla Firefox on Linux is proving me wrong.

I also am having a problem seeing the owa unlock code for mobile phones via the web interface – the Show recovery password button is greyed out . I haven’t investigated it yet but maybe going to try this powershell snippet

Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics -Mailbox:"bobbiddle" -ShowRecoveryPassword:$true
