Upgraded my home workstation to Fedora 18 and almost had an apoplexy when the following error was thrown when attempting to use a progress utility while connected to a remote server.

Unable to use your terminal. Check your PROTERMCAP file. (443)

** Could not find terminal type xterm-256color in file /u6/app/dlc/91e/protermcap. (146)

Turns out that Fedora 18’s move to the high color “xterm-256color” gnome-terminal causes progress to complain.

The work-a-round was to install PuTTY on Fedora 18 and it connected fine.
