Upgrade Time!
Doing a lot of VMWare Workstation virtualization to create labs for self-study and training. Finding that the current Ryzen 5 3600 while a very good processor most of the time for general desktop usage is a little bit bound when running several VMs
Thinking of upgrading to a Ryzen 9 but have no idea if it's compatible with my current MSI motherboard model B450M PRO-M2 MAX
Where to start
- Find your motherboards manufacturer web page. Do this by Googling the make and model number.
Try to make sure that the page is an official company one as they will have information from the horses mouth so to speak.
For my motherboard the page is https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450M-PRO-M2-MAX/Overview - Find the area where it lists compatibility with memory / storage and CPU's - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450M-PRO-M2-MAX#support-cpu
- Cross check the current component list against the planned upgrade to make sure the current items will work with the planned upgrade. You need to make sure that your current memory and motherboard combination will work with the planned upgrade component
- Go to your preferred PC parts supplier website and check the available options - https://www.pccasegear.com/category/187_2024/cpus/amd-am4-3rd-gen-processors
