Just finished reading Bounce by Matthew Syed. ISBN: 978-0-00-735054-4
Very interesting as it says that practice and training is more important that 'talent'.
I was especially interested in the psychology of "choking" i.e. when a sport person completely muffs a game because they seem to have forgotten how to play at the level they usually do. It ended up being when a person is so mentally overwhelmed that they fall back to thinking about all their movements instead of relying on the trained and subconscious actions that they normally would use. Explains why some sports people have absolutely shocking games sometimes.
I also loved the idea of `domain knowledge'. Being generally talented and have a good ability to think logically is good. But it isn't as good as someone who combines talent and thinking ability with several years of experience in the industry they work in.
Also praising how smart people are is not as effective as praising their effort.
For me, it helped me to solidify in my mind what it takes to achieve success namely Training , Practice, and Hard Work.
