I have a 3TB Western Digital USB Drive (details below) it was almost full.
If you are planning to quickly transfer data off a USB Drive to your Synology you had better budget upwards of 4 days to make the transfer.
The transfer speeds are so slow....
I searched the forums and played with different tweaks but in the end the advertised speed rates on this drive (using Mac, Linux and Windows) are no where near what the claims on the bUSB interface says it can deliver.
Combined with the extra slow down of the ntfs being read by a non-Microsoft created ntfs driver and you have incredibly slow transfer speeds.
So apparently you can get better transfer performance by formatting the drive using ext4, it will be interesting if the transfer rate becomes useable with that change.
