Since moving from Sydney to Singleton and then on to Telarah which is a suburb of Maitland I have sampled a large country town (Singleton) and then a small Regional City (Maitland).
The advantages of living in Maitland are that... hmmm:
- Houses are cheap in comparison to the capitals
- There is a giant Bunnings Warehouse nearby
- Clean air
- Slower pace of life
Jobs
The job market in this region seems to run on the principal 'if you drink with me then you must be great to work with'. So recruitment can often be based on knowing someone, who knows someone, who drinks with someone, who works at a company that needs someone. I suppose this is the mark of a smaller more provincial community. The question often asked is "Is he local?"
Growth
Maitland is growing and so is the diversity of people. Viv la Revolution. Getting used to new area's is all part of the challenge of moving around I suppose.
