When running docker ps -a in the default WSL instance you see "Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?"

Solution:

Goto Resources WSL Integration and make sure Enable integration with my default WSL distro and click "Apply & restart"

You should now see output from docker commands in your WSL instance
