If you are using Google Apps IMAP Mail in Thunderbird 3.0b2 you might have trouble sending email until you set your secure SMTP settings to look like this:

I followed the online info Google posts but it looks like the new tb3.0b2 has some mislabelled settings.

Once I changed it to STARTLS it was all hunky dory.
